150620 "Speaking and Acting Out to Change Racial Equity"

I recently watched Michell Obama’s Documentary on Netflix. She is an incredible woman and the film was profoundly moving but there was one line that stood out to me. The line came from Mrs. Obama describing her last day in the White House. A friend asked (and Im Paraphrasing), “Aren’t you going to miss all this?” . To Which Mrs. Obama Responded, “Im so happy to not have to be so Perfect ALL the Time”.

While the context of this quote is tough to decipher without you seeing the doc, I will say that her reasoning is two fold.
1. Being the First Lady is hard. All the worlds eyes are on you, from the words you say to the shoes you wear.
2. Being the First Black First Family was the most incredibly difficult job in American Culture… A place where not only the eyes of the people were on you, waiting to criticize every slip up… But also a place where every misstep or difficult decision was weighed with a sense of devaluation, for you and for your race.

Each year in December I like to round up my thoughts, reestablish my center and focus on the short, medium and long term goals for the next year. In doing so I re-vist my 3 P's for success. I don't know exactly where or how I came up with them but If you ask anyone who has known me for a while they will likely tell you that I am as concerned with developing mental toughness as much as I am about Nutritional Health. That is what these three 'cornerstones' of success represent; a better grasp on who you are is the first step in developing true mental toughness!

300718 "How to Speak and Live In Peace"

Twice per year I do a check in. It is not to be confused with a Check up in the sense that I would check my blood pressure or my back squat, the Check In is more profound and re-connects me with what I have called my "3 P's for Success" . Principles, Purpose and Persistence. There is no exact date for this intraspection but simply a feeling or natural wave of sentiment that draws me back to it. Today I want to brush you all up on the 3 P's and give you the simple answer to the problem that vexes all humans... How to live Peacefully.
